Hertford Castle

For a day out with a difference and an ideal base for touring/visiting nearby London or Cambridge, come to Hertford. Nestling in rolling countryside, it is easily accessible by rail and convenient to Luton, Stansted & Gatwick airports. Important since before Saxon times, over 1000 years of history combines with Hertford's unspoilt charm to offer specialist and antique shops, bustling Saturday Market, riverside walks, events and activities. Eating and drinking tastes are extremely well-catered for, with every kind of cuisine, fast-food, sandwich bars and tea rooms as well as many traditional pubs serving home cooked food. Hertford's calendar of year round arts events and activities ranges widely and includes Theatre Week, Hertford Music Festival, Medieval Night and Birds of Prey at Hertford Castle. Hertford Castle Gatehouse, set in riverside gardens, opens regularly for summer tours and open air band concerts (groups visits by arrangement). The world's oldest Quaker Meeting House and Hertford Museum are also a must.
